Expense Tracking

Track every vehicle expense in one organized place

Most drivers underestimate what their vehicle costs because expenses arrive at different times and in different forms. A simple, consistent tracking habit turns scattered receipts into a clear picture.

  1. Start with four core categories

Group every expense into a small set of categories so totals stay easy to read.

    • Fuel: every fill-up with date, gallons, price, and odometer reading.
    • Maintenance: oil changes, tire rotations, filters, and inspections.
    • Repairs: unplanned work, parts, and labor.
    • Fixed costs: registration, renewals, parking, and other recurring fees.
  2. Record at the moment of spending

Logging an expense within the same day keeps details accurate. Snap a photo of the receipt, then copy the amount into your worksheet during a weekly review.

  3. Use the odometer as your anchor

Writing down mileage with each entry lets you calculate cost per mile and fuel economy, two of the most useful numbers for spotting changes in how your vehicle performs.

  4. Review monthly, not yearly

A short monthly review catches unusual spending early. Compare each category to the previous month and note anything that stands out.
